The police said on Friday that the family of Amelia Sri Wahyuningsih suspected murder behind the death of the 15-year-old who jumped off the third floor of Bintaro Trade Center (BTC) shopping mall in Pondok Aren, South Tangerang, late on Wednesday. "We have launched an investigation into the case after learning some unusual circumstances around her jump," said Pondok Aren Police chief Comr. Hafid S. Herlambang.
He said that the police could not find the girl's shoes, as well as valuables things, such as her wallet and cellular phone. "We also got information that the victim had been at the shopping mall with five friends since Wednesday afternoon," Hafid said. Amelia, a resident of Sawah Baru subdistrict in Pondok Aren, died instantly after she jumped from the shopping mall's third floor at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
A car which was coming out of the mall's parking lot in the basement hit the body as soon as it fell to the ground. The police were still questioning the car driver, identified as Fahri, on Friday. Amelia's father, Kalimi, 40, said his daughter had a problem with her boyfriend. "We are leaving it all up to the police to find the truth behind our daughter's death," he said. Separately, Muhamad, a security officer who was in charge at the trade center when the incident occurred said that he heard the victim saying "forgive me" before she jumped from the third floor. "I was not aware of what she was doing so I had no chance to prevent her from committing suicide," he said.
