Bali Authorities Send Czech Tomas Toman Wanted for Manslaughter Back Home

Tomas Toman, a national of the Czech republic has been extradited by the Indonesian justice system after his arrest and incarceration by Bali police at the request of Interpol. Toman, a fugitive on the run from police in his home nation, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for a beating death that occured in a restaurant in Prague. The man had been traveling to a number of countries in an effort to avoid arrest.

That sojourn came to an end when he was taken into custody by Indonesian police in Bali in response to a “red notice” sent by Czech Republic police. Toman’s efforts to seek city arrest in Bali based on the promise of a financial bond and guarantees from an Indonesian girlfriend were unsuccessful. Although the Indonesian courts lack a bilateral extradition agreement with Czech Republic, the Indonesian justice department granted a special request through diplomatic channels to take Toman into custody and return him to Prague to serve his prison sentence. As a result, he was placed him on an airplane bound for home on Friday, March 15, 2013.
