0 Ahok warns Jakartans to live healthier lives

Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama warned residents that they could not use the Jakarta Health Cards (KJS) if they ignored their personal health. "We can make a regulation stipulating that smokers, alcoholics and motorcyclist who do not wear helmets have to pay their own medical bills.

We won’t cover the bill for them, "Ahok said on Friday as quoted by tempo.co. He added that this was a part of the administration’s effort to encourage residents to live healthier lives. Ahok said the administration was still deliberating this issue with the Indonesian General Practitioners Association (PDUI) at the University of Indonesia’s school of medicine and Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital.

At a later date the administration would also seek assistance from the community and neighborhood unit caretakers so it could posses a thorough map of the city’s condition of health.  "The doctors will help us identify who has paid attention to their own personal health and who has not. The administration will design special treatment for those who are still ignorant of their own health,” he said. (hrl/dic)
