0 PAN could secure 11 percent of vote next year, says patron

The National Mandate Party’s (PAN) chief patron Amien Rais has rejected a recent survey result that predicted his party would only secure 1.5 percent of the vote if the general elections were conducted this year. “By my rough calculations we could secure at least 11 percent of the vote, God willing,”

Amien Rais said during a PAN leadership meeting held at the Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran on Sunday. He said that thousands of PAN supporters had flocked to the meeting venue and this wiped out speculation that the party had lost its charm. Previously the Syaiful Mujani Research Center issued its latest survey, stating that the Golkar Party and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) would gain the largest shares of the vote by securing 21.3 and 18.2 percent respectively if the general elections were held today.(dic)
