0 BNI Hopes Chelsea Visit Will Boost Co-Branded Card Sales

Bank Negara Indonesia hopes to capitalize on Chelsea Football Club's upcoming visit to Indonesia, setting a target to issue 100,000 co-branded cards with the London-based football club by April. Darmadi Sutanto, BNI's consumer and retail director, said the company had already issued 60,000 Chelsea-branded cards, which include debit, pre-paid and credit cards, since they launched the card last August, adding that they had originally set a target of 25,000.

“We have set the target in April to have 100,000 customers using BNI-Chelsea cards. The target is more aggressive because of Chelsea's upcoming visit to Indonesia,” he said in a press conference on Friday. BNI president director Gatot M. Suwondo said Chelsea's visit showed the importance of Indonesia and its fan-base in the country. “The visit is a huge appreciation for Chelsea's fans, BNI-Chelsea card holders and football fans in general,” he said.

Chelsea will visit Indonesia for the first time in July as part of the final leg of their pre-season tour of Asia. The European champions will face Indonesia XI at Jakarta's 88,000-seat Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on July 25, following matches in Thailand and Malaysia.
