Indonesia wants to increase tourist arrivals from the US from 10 to 15 percent of total tourist numbers in 2013, according to the nation’s top tourism official. “The number of tourists from America visiting Indonesia, especially to Bali, has been increasing over the last few years, with an annual growth rate of ten percent,” Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said in Pasadena in the US at a conference, as quoted by Antara news agency.
According to the ministry, around 174,000 tourists from the US arrived in Indonesia between January and October 2012, up 9.95 percent from the same period in 2011. Participating in various international festivals in the US would expose Indonesia to the American tourism market. “Indonesia must frequently appear in the eyes of the American public,” Mari said. Despite that nation’s prolonged economic slowdown, the US still has a tourism market ripe for exploration, Mari said, American tourists wee regular visitors who enjoyed extended vacations.
