A team of staffers at the Amadea Resort in Seminyak has created a unique Christmas tree made entirely from plastic water bottles. For several weeks, the resort’s housekeeping team collected discarded bottles from guest rooms and set out to give them a new lease on life. Usually, these bottles are sent to Java to be recycled to endorse sustainable tourism. The tree was assembled from over 1,800 empty bottles in an attempt to convey an important message about waste and environmental preservation.
A team of volunteers spent their own time working on this project, which took a total of 28 hours to create. The team leader of this festive season initiative was Amadea’s chief engineer, Dody Hermanta. “One of the main problems that Bali is currently facing is from the effects of excess waste. Our rivers and oceans are polluted with plastic. We need to encourage everyone, locals and tourists alike, to manage their waste responsibly. Hopefully, this special Christmas tree made from plastic bottles will show our staff and in-house guests just how easy it is to reduce, recycle and reuse,” he said.
