0 Court tells election agencies to stop bickering

The Supreme Court is calling for the General Election Commission (KPU) and the Elections Supervisory Committee (Bawaslu) to end their feud. In an edict signed by Supreme Court Justice Hatta Ali, the court urged the agencies not to file lawsuits against each other in case of different interpretation of election law.

"The two bodies can have their differences, but there are no mechanisms that could sanction the two in filing suits against each other in court, as both are the organizers of the general election," Hatta said in the edict. The KPU and Bawaslu have been at loggerheads when registering and verifying political parties. Bawaslu has accused the KPU of inaccurate verification, saying that the KPU should reinstate the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI), which it disqualified during the factual verification process.
