0 KIP Orders Democratic Party to Submit Financial Reports to ICW

Indonesia's Public Information Commission on Monday ordered the Democratic Party to submit its 2010 and 2011 financial reports to a corruption watchdog. Abdul Rahman Ma'Mun, the chairman of the commission known as KIP, said the Democratic Party had 10 days to submit the information to the Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) from the day the defendant received the ruling, as quoted by Antaranews.com.

The ICW had asked for the financial reports of all parties at the House of Representatives but the request had been rejected. The watchdog decided to report the nine political parties to KIP following their refusal. The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), National Awakening Party (PKB) and the Great Indonesian Movement Party (Gerindra) submitted the requested document after the ICW made the report. But the Golkar Party, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and the People's Conscience Party (Hanura) told the KIP that they would submit the report after the finance report had been audited.

The other three political parties — the United Development Party (PPP), the National Mandate Party (PAN) and the Democratic Party — chose to wait for an adjudication hearing at the KIP. The information commission ordered PPP to submit its financial report to ICW on Jan. 28. PAN's case is still ongoing. Democratic Party representative Hinca Panjaitan said that he would consider the ruling before deciding whether to accept or reject it. “If there's an objection [rejection on the ruling], please file an appeal to the district court in 14 days,” Abdul said.

KIP commissioners said that the information requested by the ICW, which consists of finances during 2010 and 2011 such as budget usage and cash flow, should be made available to the public. The 2008 law on political parties stipulates that audited finance reports of political parties should be opened to the public.
