The police say detectives will question the ad operator of tokobagus.com on Wednesday about an ad on the e-commerce website that offered 18-month-old babies for sale. Detectives previously grilled Michael Klar, the website’s developer, and IT manager Marlon on Monday after both failed to honor a summons issued a week before.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said on Tuesday the site’s operator, whom the police would question, was responsible for allowing the ad, which was published on Dec. 31, 2012 and removed on Jan. 3 following public complaints. The ad offered babies at Rp 10 million (US$1,035) each. “We asked [Klar and Marlon] yesterday about the procedures and the filtering for ad content. We will investigate what caused the portal’s security to be compromised,” Rikwanto said. He said that the police were also tracing the whereabouts of the poster of the ad, who claimed to reside in West Kalimantan. The perpetrators face up to 15 years’ imprisonment and a Rp 300 million fine if convicted of violating the 2001 law on child protection.
