0 Total E&P Indonesie inaugurates South Mahakam block

French oil and gas company Total E&P Indonesie inaugurated on Thursday its South Mahakam block in Senipah subdistrict, Kutai Kertanegara, East Kalimantan. Upstream regulatory special task force SKKMigas head Rudi Rubiandini, East Kalimantan Governor Awang Faroek Ishak and Total E&P Indonesie president director Elisabeth Proust attended the inauguration.

Total E&P Indonesie spokesman Kristanto Hartadi said the company had spent US$830 million on the field, which included the construction of three new platforms in West Stupa, East Stupa and East Madu, and the drilling of 19 new wells. “We expect that production from the South Mahakam field will reach an average of 69,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) by 2013,” Kristanto said.

Total E&P Indonesie began production from the South Mahakam field, which is located within the Mahakam block, in October last year, two months ahead of schedule. The company has set aside $1.2 billion in investment for 2013 for, among other things, the drilling of 100 new wells. The South Mahakam project is part of the development of three condensate fields (Stupa, East Mandu and Jumelai) and two gas fields (Jempang and Metulang), located offshore 35 kilometers southeast of Balikpapan and 58 kilometers south of the Peciko field, with a depth of 45–60 meters.

Total E&P Indonesie is the largest oil and gas producer in Indonesia with output reaching 382,000 boepd by December 2012. Its operating rights for the Mahakam Block will expire in 2017. (swd)
