0 Tasty Tipat in a Relaxed Environment

For locals and visitors, Warung Krishna in Sanur has always been the place to go for its tasty Balinese traditional dish, tipat kuah. Located at Jl. Kutat Lestari No. 4,Sanur Kauh, it offers not only tasty tipat kuah but also an airy, relaxed place to dine. Tipat is the Balinese term for rice cake, also known in other parts of Indonesia as ketupat. In Bali, there are numerous food stalls selling this particular traditional dish, each unique in terms of taste and flavor.

At Warung Krishna, the tipat kuah is perfectly cooked and complimented by shredded ayam betutu (spicy steamed chicken flavored with Balinese herbs), boiled egg, fried peanuts, fish satay, urap salad (traditional mixed vegetables with spicy grated coconut), and Balinese sambal matah. The urap salad consists of various vegetables, including cassava leaves, bitter gourd, beansprouts, gondo (a type of kale) and long beans. The kuah (dressing) is made of a mixture of tasty spices and chicken broth, sometimes with the addition of sliced unripe papaya, squash, young jackfruit and ares (banana leaf veins).

“The tipat kuah is the most sought after item on the menu,” said owner Wayan Ariani, saying that she could sell around 300 portions of tipat kuah on a regular day and double the amount during the holidays. The tipat can also be substituted by rice or rice porridge. Unlike at street-side footstalls, the price of a plate of tipat kuah at Warung Krishna is relatively expensive at Rp 20,000 (US$2.60), while the porridge or steamed rice dishes cost Rp 15,000. However, the price is compensated for by the airy, comfortable atmosphere brought on by the wide-open space of the warung.

Not only clean but a refreshing breeze keeps diners cool as they look out over the trees and greenery. Warung Krishna opens from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., but due to its popularity and the continuous flow of visitors, the food has usually run out by 3 p.m. Warung Krishna also has another, newly opened, branch at the culinary center across from Oleh-Oleh Krisna on Jl. Raya Tuban in Kuta. Although, there is no menu on the tables, and no real need as there are only three rice options, Warung Krishna employs 12 waiters and waitresses who serve the food quite quickly. As an accompaniment to its menu, Warung Krishna sells regular beverages like iced tea, iced orange juice and soft drinks. Various crispy snacks are also available, including green bean chips for vegetarians.
