Police have detained the driver who crashed into a food stall in Kemang last month, which left two people dead and five more injured, after he was medically cleared by doctors, an officer said on Friday. Andika Pradika, whose license expired two years ago, had been held at Fatmawati General Hospital to treat injuries he sustained in the accident shortly after midnight on Dec. 27. He was driving a Nissan Grand Livina in Kemang, South Jakarta, when he hit the side of a car in a cafe parking lot.
He reportedly tried to flee the scene at a high rate of speed without his lights on, but he hit a row of parked motorcycles before hitting the food stall. "The doctors have declared him recovered. His intravenous transfusion was hooked off yesterday," South Jakarta Police traffic department chief, Comr. Hindarsono said. Hindarsono said the police plan to reconstruct the incident on Saturday or Sunday now that Andika, who will be held at the South Jakarta Police station, had been cleared from hospital.
“So far, we have questioned eight witnesses, including the victims, the South Korean national who was a passenger in the Grand Livina and witnesses in the area," he said. The police had said that a urine test revealed no traces of drugs but the suspect had admitted to drinking beer before the accident.
