0 Dems told to take action to restore image

The Democratic Party needs to immediately take concrete actions to restore its diminishing image. Otherwise, it will face hard times in the 2014 general elections, a political observer has said. “As its chief patron, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono should take concrete action. This will help the party restore its declining popularity,” Ari Junaedi from the University of Indonesia said in Jakarta, on Friday.

The Democratic Party has been facing hard times after many of its politicians were implicated in graft scandals, including former treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin (already convicted), Angelina Sondakh and Siti Hartati Murdaya, who are currently standing trial. Andi Mallarangeng was the latest politician to be named a suspect in the graft-ridden Hambalang sports center project. He resigned from his position as youth and sports minister.
