The Buleleng regional administration is planning to issue a regulation to monitor land transactions in anticipation of the construction of an international airport in Kubutambahan village. The regulation will ban owners of land located near the planned airport from selling their property to outsiders. During a press gathering with local journalists on Thursday, Regent Putu Agus Suradnyana said that many irresponsible middlemen were now hunting for land located adjacent to the planned airport site to sell it to outside investors.
“I don’t want to let the residents feel cheated by these middlemen. I also do not want to see local people acting as observers of these developments, while outsiders enjoy the benefits of the airport construction,” he said. The construction of the alternate international airport in Buleleng has sparked speculation among landowners and middlemen hoping to gain huge profits from the sale of their property. The regent said that Air Asia had shown interest in investing in the airport’s construction.
