The local police arrested five children
and one teenager for allegedly committing burglaries targeting donation
boxes at temples across the regency. They used the money to play online
computer games. Klungkung Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Ni Wayan Sri
Yudayatni Wirawati disclosed to Metrobali.com over the weekend that
these children had carried out the crimes in an organized manner with a
clear division of roles.
“One kid will play the role of the
coordinator, some will act as observers — making sure the target area is
secure, and one kid will do the actual break in and open the donation
box,” she said, adding that the ring had stolen money from 21 donation
boxes. The ring was led by I Nengah Purnawibawa, an 18 year old who
dropped out of junior high school. He was responsible for collecting the
stolen money and distributing it to members of the ring.
“I used the money to buy food and to pay
for computer time at online games stalls.” The police finally detained
Purnawibawa and released the other children following a meeting with
their respective parents and community leaders, who promised that they
would supervise and educate the children.
