0 Charity initiatives to mark Xmas, NYE events

As Christmas is a perfect moment for sharing, an array of charity initiatives are to take place in a range of special programs run by the island’s hotels. In the spirit of giving back to the local community, the InterContinental Bali Resort in Jimbaran is one of these hotels holding a special charity initiative. A tree decorated with wooden angels will be displayed in the hotel lobby. These angels can be purchased for a small donation and the funds raised will go to the children of Panti Salam orphanage for their education and daily living costs.

“The children will also perform seasonally inspired songs in the lobby in the lead up to Christmas Day,” said assistant public relations manager Daniela Hartati. The resort has also created an exciting program filled with special activities and events for the pleasure of all in-house guests. Designed to transcend boundaries and embrace diversity, the program will celebrate the spirit of the festive season by taking different needs into careful consideration. “There will be a selection of events to showcase local culture, as well as to honor the family traditions of Christmas,” Daniela said.

Visiting an orphanage located in the north part of Denpasar to share the joy of Christmas with the children is one of the items on the year-end agenda for Harris Hotel and Resort Sunset Road. “All the management team will visit a Christian orphanage in North Denpasar to donate some money, clothes and books that we have collected from the employees and management,” said public relations manager Adinda Ashrinintya. So the orphans have more fun at this special moment, the team will also bring them Christmas cupcakes prepared by the hotel’s chefs. The hotel, however, will not provide special programs for the guests.

“We prefer to hold a charity event for the orphans. For the guests, we will present Santa Claus to accompany them during breakfast on Christmas Day,” Adinda said. Odyssey Surf School in Kuta will share the joy of Christmas by inviting 12 children from Elishama orphanage in Denpasar to learn to surf and join other educational and fun activities. In the event, taking place this Saturday on Kuta Beach, the children will be taught how to surf by an instructor clad in a Santa Claus costume.

“Before surfing, they will also get a lesson about safety on the beach from the Kuta lifeguard team, as well as joining a beach cleanup and educational games about preserving the environment,” said manager Lentera Sanjaya. Meanwhile, on New Year’s Eve (NYE), singer and songwriter Michael Franti, who tours internationally, will be performing at Waterbom-Bali in his fifth annual benefit concert for non-profit organization Bumi Sehat foundation. For the first time in Bali, the entire band will perform as Michael Franti and Spearhead.

Franti is also a social activist who has supported Bumi Sehat ever since he set foot in Bali six years ago. With Waterbom-Bali donating the venue and M+M Concepts donating proceeds from food and beverages, the event is poised for great success in raising funds to support the good works of Robin Lim, CNN’s 2011 Hero of the Year. Besides the charity initiatives, some hotels will organize special events over Christmas and New Year by offering unique culinary and entertainment experiences for their guests. The Westin Resort in Nusa Dua will present “Christmas Eve By The Water”, a poolside, family-oriented celebration.

“Guests can feast upon a selection of culinary favorites on offer from the buffet table and be entertained by our resident band, plus a live performance of traditional Indonesian kulintang music throughout the evening,” said marketing communication executive Renny Suryapramesti. The excitement will continue with fun entertainment for the entire family, as Santa Claus will also put in a special appearance with his sack filled with Christmas surprises. There will also be an evening of great food and entertainment that pays tribute to the creativity of the Indonesian archipelago, while welcoming the New Year through a sumptuous buffet dinner of international fare in the grandeur of the Mangupura Hall, as well as a kids-only party on the next day to give parents the opportunity to have a well deserved rest or sleep in.
